The Super Falcons of Nigeria have secured their place in the final match of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco after securing a 2-1 victory over the Bayana Bayana of South Africa.
The match which was a clash between the top two teams in the continent and was also a battle between the defending champions, South Africa and nine times winner of the tournament, Nigeria.
The highly anticipated match lived up to expectations as it was a closely contested one as both teams went into the encounter with the aim of securing a much needed win.
Super Falcons’ captain, Rasheedat Ajibade gave Nigeria the lead from the penalty spot very late in the first half she sent her effort past goalkeeper Andile Dlamini.
The South Africans drew level from the penalty spot as Linda Motlhalo expertly sent her effort into the net while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie could do nothing than dive in the wrong direction.
With both teams locked at 1-1 and the match seemingly heading for extra time, Michelle Alozie stepped up for the Super Falcons as her added time effort secured the win for Nigeria.
With the win, the Super Falcons are into the final match of the competition where they will meet either Morocco or Ghana for a chance to win the trophy for a record extending tenth time.
