The Super Falcons have secured their place in the knockout stage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup after a 0-0 draw with Ireland on Monday.

The Nigerian female team advanced to the knockout stage with 5 points garnered from two draws and one win which placed them one point behind Australia who qualified as group winners with six points.
The barren draw between Nigeria and Ireland was one with few clear-cut chances as both teams had their defensive units doing so much in covering their territories and stopping the forwards from getting too many chances.
Nigeria could have snatched another victory late in the match when Uchenna Kanu’s headed effort was sailing towards the back of the net before Irish goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan intervened and pushed the ball against the crossbar.
With the Super Falcons only in need of a draw to progress to the knockout stage, they were able to hold off the Irish attacking unit to end the match with a 0-0 scoreline.
In the group’s other match, Australia hammered Olympic champions, Canada 4-0 to seal their place in the last sixteen.
as it stands, the Super Falcons could be facing England in the knockout phase but will have to wait for the completion of matches in Group D to see if Denmark or China might snatch top spot from the English team.
