The Super Falcons of Nigeria have qualified for the 2024 Olympics Games in Paris after securing a 0-0 draw against the Bayana Bayana of South Africa in Pretoria.
This will be first time in sixteen years that the Super Falcons of Nigeria will secure qualification for the Olympics Games as many have been said about the country being jinxed in the qualifiers despite having the best female footballers in the continent.
The Nigerians who won the first leg of the final round of qualifiers 1-0 in Abuja travelled to South Africa knowing that a draw was all they needed to secure their ticket to Paris and that was exactly what they did.
Randy Waldrum led Super Falcons did not let the slip off their hands as they fought bravely to hold on Rasheedat Ajibade’s goal which handed them the first leg victory over the South Africans.
With the result, the Super Falcons will be heading to the Olympics Games in Paris as one of Africa’s representatives alongside the Copper Queens of Zambia who triumphed over the Atlas Queens of Morocco on Tuesday night.
The Zambians had lost the first leg 2-1 to the Moroccans in Zambia before securing a 2-0 victory in Morocco which handed them a 3-2 aggregate victory and gave them the ticket to Paris Olympics Games.
Meanwhile, the Super Falcons have been drawn into Group C of Paris Olympics Women’s Football alongside Brazil, Spain and Japan while Zambia’s Copper Queens have been drawn alongside the United States of America, Germany and Australia.
