Foremost Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has called the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration to investigate the factors that led to the failure of former president Muhammad Buhari’s failure to fulfill his promise of repairing the country’s refineries.
He stated these while speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.
Falana called on President Tinubu to be swift in addressing the suffering that has been inflicted on the people because of the reckless behavior of the country’s ruling class.
He said “The government will have to move speedily to address the suffering of the people, undeserved pains inflicted on the people, because of the irresponsibility of the Nigerian ruling class.”
He reminded everyone of the promise made by former president Muhammad Buhari in 2015 and how he failed to fulfill his promises.
He said “Whereas Gen Muhammadu Buhari had promised in 2015, ‘When I get to power, I am going to fix all the refineries.”
Falana demanded speedy investigations into fraudulent activities which marred fuel subsidy regime in the country.
“Now that it’s clear that those who initially applauded the removal of fuel subsidy are beginning to appreciate the enormity of the crisis that it has caused for the country are now mounting pressure on the government to fast-track the process of cushioning the effects of the removal.
“No doubt there was a lot of fraud that characterized the management of fuel subsidy and the government will have to investigate that.”
