Months after losing his father to the cold hands of death, Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali has announced the passing away of his mother.
According to Punch, the Chippa United of South Africa goalkeeper shared the news on X handle on Wednesday.
“RIP mom, worst year of my life already,” Nwabali posted on New Year’s Day, accompanied by tears and heartbreak emojis. “A very very crazy world indeed,” he added before sharing the sad announcement.
In response to the unfortunate incident, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has offered its condolences to the bereaved AFCON silver medalist and expressed their support for him during his difficult period.
“Our heartfelt condolences to Stanley Nwabali on the loss of his mother. Stay strong, Stanley. Sending you strength and support during this difficult time. You are not alone; we are all with you,” the NFF said.
Nwabali’s father passed away in November, just hours after he had played in goal for the Super Eagles in their 1-1 draw against Benin Republic during a crucial 2025 AFCON qualification match.
Though the cause of his mother’s death has not been revealed, her passing has come as a devastating shock to the goalkeeper, especially after he posted a positive 2024 recap video on New Year’s Day, thanking Chippa United FC, the Super Eagles and his fans for their support, while expressing excitement for 2025.
