The management of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH), Ondo has frowned at personnels of the medical institution for embarking on industrial action without proper notification to the hospital management.
This was contained in a statement signed by the institution’s public relations officer, Mr. Akinjide Oluwatope on Thursday.
It read “UNIMED Teaching Hospital Management has frowned up at the unnotified industrial strike action embarked on by allied health workers under the umbrella of Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA) of the institution.”
The management said that they were not against the strike action by any means, but the abrupt withdrawal of services was not the best approach at this time.
“Reports from other complex of the teaching hospital said Pharmacists, Laboratory scientists, health information managers have joined the strike but the technicians were waiting for the professional bodies directives to join it. Few Directors were on standby to attend to critical cases at accident and emergency unit and other units in the Teaching hospital complex to avoid public outcry.”
The Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), of the institution, Dr Michael Gbala called for calm and urge the striking personnels to embrace negotiations in everyone’s interest.
It read “In a critical situation the institution found herself, there is need for everyone to work together to salvage the vulnerables. We should all put all hand on deck not to allow the strike to breed more challenging situations as it were.”
