As part of reforms in the education sector in Ondo State, the State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has promised that his administration will address the issue of acute shortage of classroom teachers in public primary and secondary schools.

The Governor made this known while addressing a delegation from the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Ondo State chapter, during a courtesy visit at the Governor’s office in Akure on Wednesday.

The delegation was led by the Chairman of the NUT in Ondo State, who doubles as the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC in the State, Comrade Victor Oladele Amoko.

Aiyedatiwa said “I am committed to ensuring that the educational aspirations of our teachers and students are realized.

“We will take decisive steps to address the acute shortage of teachers in our primary schools, ensuring the stability and quality of education.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa also pledged to take critical look at the various issues raised by the teachers, including the reintroduction of running grants to schools, enhancing school infrastructure, appointment of Headmasters General for primary schools, extension of age and service years for teachers and provision of instructional materials.

The Governor assured the NUT of his administration’s commitment to revitalizing technical training and addressing related concerns.

The Governor concluded the meeting by expressing gratitude to leaders of the NUT for their partnership and reaffirming his commitment to advancing education as a catalyst for development in Ondo State.
