President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described his decision to unify Nigeria’s exchange rate as one made in the best interest of the country and it’s people.
He stated this on Thursday while speaking at a reception organized in his honour by the Lagos State Government at the Lagos House, Marina.
Tinubu said he took the decision in the nation’s best interest just like he did with fuel subsidy removal and not for his personal gain.
He explained that he could have refused to take the actions he took on unifying exchange rate and fuel subsidy removal but his conscience would only allow him rest when he takes actions in the interest of the people who elected him as president of the country.
He said “I could afford to share the benefit by participating in the arbitrage, but God forbid! That’s not why you voted for me.
“We need to take the steps to stop the bleeding of our finances through speedy action on fuel subsidy. We have no choice.”
President Tinubu added that his administration will work all stakeholders to make the nation’s economy resilient and return the country to it’s glory days.
“We will work together with an open-door policy. We will bring Nigeria from the brink of a resilient economy. I want us to be partners so that we can rescue our land and make it a born-again nation.”
