A 25-year-old woman, Mrs Chinyere Ifesinachi has been arrested by Police in Anambra state for brutalizing her eight-year-old maid with a pestle.
This incident which took place at Nkpor in Idemili North local government area of Anambra state.
According to a statement issued by the spokesman for the state police command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the suspect was arrested for assaulting the girl and will be duly prosecuted when after thorough investigation.
“the arrest is following a trending video/public outcry of the residents of the area seen Miss Idimmachikwu with different degrees of injuries all over her body allegedly perpetuated by her guardian Mrs Ifesinachi. The child is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.”
“the CP has frowned on such inhuman treatment subjected to some housemaids/help by their guardians, assuring that the command will continue to do everything within it’s power to protect the vulnerable. The case shall be charged to court on the conclusion of the investigation and justice shall be served.”
According to Anambra state’s commissioner for women and social welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, the suspect beat the young girl with a pestle and cane because her child fell while Idimmachukwu was carrying her.
She added that “the little girl was taken to the hospital where she is still undergoing medical examinations and treatment to ascertain the extent of her injuries. She is safe now and will not be returning to her guardian’s house again.”
The arrested Ifesinachi admitted to beating the girl and inflicting injuries on her body but blamed her action on the devil. She claimed that she never the intention of hurting young Idimmachukwu.
