Lawmakers elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have been encouraged to accept the individuals nominated by the party’s national working committee to occupy leadership positions at the 10th assembly in order to have an inclusive government that will not be accused of trying to “islamize” the country.
This call was made by the vice-president elect, Kashim Shettima while interacting with some elected members of the House of representatives at a meeting on Friday. He encouraged the lawmakers to accept the zoning arrangements made by the party as it was done in good faith to ensure that the nation is united under the next administration.
“the leadership of the forthcoming national assembly must be inclusive because the stability of the nation is much more important than any other consideration.”
“what we are trying to avoid is a situation whereby the number one citizen, number two citizen, the number three citizen and the number four citizen are all of the same faith. That will lend credence, and validate the negative narrative of the Islamisation agenda of Nigeria.
Shettima emphasized that the incoming administration prioritizes the stability of the country and will continue working with all stakeholders to ensure that the country has an inclusive government that will ensure that stability.
“this is why my principal, a fair-minded leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is more inclined towards having the number three citizen from the south-south or the south-east. Even in the current circumstance that we find ourselves in, the stability of the nation is much more important than any other consideration.”

The tussle over those who will emerge as leaders of the 20th assembly drags on as parties are yet to agree on consensus candidates ahead of their inauguration which comes up next month.
