The Nigeria for Women Program Scale Up Project, NFWPSU, in Ondo State has trained Ward Facilitators across the pilot three Local Government Areas of the state. The 6-Day intensive training was held six centers in the Local Government Areas-Ilaje, Akure North, and Akoko Northwest – with participants drawn from the different wards in the areas.
The training was supported by personnel from the Federal Project Coordinating Unit and Ogun State Project Coordinating Unit with special focus on the roles, qualities and technical skills the Ward Facilitators are expected to be equipped with. It was geared towards preparing the ground for effective implementation of the project through formation and strengthening of Women Affinity Groups – the core mechanism for women engagement for enhanced livelihoods.
Training facilitators took turns to explain in simple languages and terms all the sessions of the exercise with participants asking various questions and clarifications made.
Many community and leaders also visited the training centers to encourage the Ward Facilitators on the need to carry out the task ahead of them with conscientious commitment that will engender community development through women empowerment.
The State Project Coordinator, Dr Mrs Jumoke Bakare, while monitoring the exercise across the centers commended the Ward Facilitators for their attention and effective participation throughout the training, encouraging them to put the interest of the rural and peri-urban women – beneficiaries of the project – at heart in all they do. She reiterated the non-negotiable principles of the project to the Ward Facilitators, insisting that no one must contravene the pillars of the project.
With the trainings concluded, the Ward Facilitators have since joined Project Staff in Community Entry to further seel the cooperation and buy-in of the various communities across the three pilot benefiting Local Government Areas.
