Activities at the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa was brought to an halt on Wednesday morning as staff of the institution protested against the dismissal of some of their colleagues.
The workers who came out in large number barricaded the university entrance gate as they protested against what they described as an illegal dismissal of thirty-five of their members by the institution’s governing council.
The workers held the protest to raise their concerns about the unjust sacking of their colleagues nd to stop the institution’s governing council from hurriedly ratifying the decision.
The protesting workers maintained that the sacked members of staff were employed legally and had been working in the institution for over six months before their sudden dismissal was announced on Tuesday.
They vowed to continue holding protests and paralyze all activities within the institution until the decision to dismiss the staff is reversed and affected workers are recalled and reinstated to their lawful positions.
