The authorities of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, have announced plans to introduce new measures aimed at strengthening security and regulating vehicular movement on the university campus.
The decision was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
The meeting was attended by principal officers, representatives of staff unions including ASUU, NASU, SSANU and NAAT, members of the Students’ Union Government, and the Head of the University’s Security Unit.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, the university management reviewed the security situation on campus and identified the need for tighter control of vehicles and motorcycles entering and leaving the institution.
Consequently, students would no longer be permitted to bring vehicles onto campus, while students who own motorcycles would be required to register them with the University Security Unit.The management also announced that visitors arriving in vehicles would only be allowed to enter the campus between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily.
It further disclosed plans to introduce a vehicle access control system under which vehicles would be screened and issued tallies or other identification devices before being granted access to the campus.In addition, all commercial motorcycle operators within the university would be required to register with the institution and would be issued appropriate uniforms and stickers. Staff members who own motorcycles would also be mandated to register with the Security Unit, with stickers introduced as part of the measures to improve identification and security.
The university also directed vehicle operators to possess valid driving licences and charged the Security Unit with enforcing compliance with traffic rules and regulations. Management said the measures would help prevent unauthorised vehicles and motorcycles from gaining access to the campus and assist in identifying offenders involved in reckless driving or riding for appropriate sanctions.
Meanwhile, the university authorities warned against the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages, cigarette smoking and reckless driving on campus. Management also directed that clearly defined speed limits be established across campus roads, while representatives of the Students’ Union Government are expected to work with the Security Unit to review and recommend appropriate speed limits and sanctions for offenders.
