Rivers United of Port Harcourt have secured their place in the group stage of the prestigious CAF Confederation Cup after a 2-0 victory over Etoile Filante in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Two quick fire goals from Alex Oyowah the closing stages of the match handed Rivers United a place in the group stage of the competition after they had drawn the first leg tie in Ivory Coast.
Rivers United are the only Nigerian club to qualify for the group stages on any of the continental competitions this season after Enyimba, Remo Stars and Bendel Insurance all failed in their quest to qualify for the competitions.
They will be carrying the hopes of the entire nation as fans will be hoping that they can win the competition and rebuild the nation’s image as an elite footballing nation and dominant force on the continent.
