President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law thereby reverting the country to the old national anthem, “Nigeria, we hail thee”.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio made this known on Wednesday at a joint session of the National Assembly marking the Silver Jubilee Of Nigeria’s 4th Republic.

President Bola Tinubu was present at the joint session and sang the old national anthem with the legislators before leaving to attend to other engagements.

Senator Akpabio revealed that the sitting was primarily to launch the new national anthem, adding that the President will not be making a speech because he has to leave to launch the Abuja metro line.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, apologized for the misinformation earlier passed on the visit of the President said it was a mistake on the part of the National Assembly and he apologized about it.“The president has said that what ever speech we have to give should be shifted to June 12 which is democracy day, so to this effect the president will come flag off the recitation of the new National anthem after giving accent to it and will the after proceed to other important engagement.”

The Senate and the House of Representatives had previously passed the bill at separate sittings and it has been signed by the president into law.
