The Nigerian Labour Congress leadership has threatened to go on a nationwide strike across the country if Comrade Joe Ajaero, the Union’s President is taken into custody by the Nigeria Police.
The union delivered this message on Tuesday morning at its headquarters after calling an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council to address the police’s invitation of the NLC President due to suspected funding of terrorism.
Ajaero should accept the police invitation, the NEC decided, but they also pointed out that their legal counsel ought to ask for more time so the NLC President can appear before the police.
The deputy president of the NLC, Comrade Ado Kabiru Sani, ordered all workers in the country to wait for further orders in case the police did not behave as they had anticipated to apprehend Ajaero.
His words: “As a committed labor center, we will honor the invitation of the police because we are not a faceless organization, but we are working with our lawyer for an extension of time.
“If the President is arrested, all workers will down tools immediately. We should wait for further directives from our leadership.”
