A prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Honourable Clement Oluwamodimu has appealed to the Ondo State government under the leadership of Honourable Lucky Aiyedatiwa to urgently commence the repair of the popular Oke-Odunwo Bridge in Ondo town.
Honourable Clement Oluwamodimu popularly known as Next Level, who presently resides in the United Kingdom made this known in a statement made available to Climax News Hub on Tuesday.
In the statement signed by Prosperous Samuel, he appealed to the state government to take urgent actions to prevent further loss of lives at the bridge during this period and beyond.
The prominent member of the APC and former ADC Councillorship candidate for the ward where the bridge is located used the medium to bring to the immediate attention of the state government the deplorable state of the ever busy Oke-Odunwo bridge.
It read “The bridge has become a death trap for our people. This bridge has claimed several lives in recent years due to its precarious state and we do not want the avoidable and needless loss of lives to continue.
“The situation is dire. The bridge is now at breaking point. That is why we are requesting your administration to take a swift and decisive action to repair this bridge without delay. Every passing day puts more lives at risk and we cannot continue to lose our loved ones due to the indifference of past administrations to the plight of the users of this bridge.
“The bridge serves as a vital link between Ode-Ondo and Oka. The collapse of the bridge will make it nearly impossible for the people living around Adegoju, Akinmarin, Oke-Idera, Oka, Ajagbale, FFF, Christland, Jipadola, Ore-meji, Abdullahi,Oke-Ayo, Opopo, Awoyaya and other major adjoining communities to go to the government hospital, the main market and banks which are all located in Ode-Ondo.
He explained that the collapse of the bridge will disrupt activities across the community and will make life more difficult for residents and people working in the community.
“And vice versa, students from Ode-Ondo who are schooling in the numerous primary and secondary schools in the aforementioned areas would have to stop going to school and their teachers too would have to stay back at home. Others who are living in Ode-Ondo and have their places of work in the aforementioned areas on the other side of the bridge would find it difficult to earn a living. Even if they would do, it will be at a great cost especially with the hike in the pump price of PMS.
“The High Court is located in Oka. Therefore, judges and other judiciary workers would also bear the burnt, including lawyers, nearly all of whom have their respective chambers in Ode-Ondo. With the avoidable scenario, the wheel of justice may grind to a halt because all the police stations are located in Ode-Ondo including the Area Command Office and the prisons.
“Hence, we implore you to treat this matter with the urgency it deserves and allocate funds to commence repair work immediately. We are willing to cooperate with your government in any way possible to ensure this critical project is completed quickly. Please act now to save lives.”
