The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed its decision to contest the outcome of the September 21, 2024, Edo governorship election as the state’s Election Petition Tribunal resumes proceedings on Monday.

In a communiqué issued after a meeting of the party’s leadership, including its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, the PDP pledged to recover what it considers its rightful mandate.

The statement, signed by Hon. Henry Tenebe, Secretary of the Edo State PDP Caretaker Committee, detailed that the meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the State Caretaker Committee.

The party criticised the APC-led administration in Edo, alleging that the state has faced significant challenges under its governance.

The communiqué underscored the PDP’s steadfast commitment to democratic values and the rule of law, principles the party believes are critical for peace and progress in Edo State.

The PDP acknowledged the loyalty and dedication of its members and supporters, urging them to remain resolute and united.

The leadership commended Dr. Tony Aziegbemi and Asue Ighodalo for their contributions to maintaining cohesion and progress within the party.

Additionally, the party appealed for the continued support and prayers of Edo residents, expressing optimism that its legal challenge would eventually restore the people’s mandate and uphold justice.
