The University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH), Ondo State, recently hosted a high-level courtesy visit from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND). The delegation was led by Professor B.S. Alabi, Chairman of the Ministerial Committee.
The important visit was made known in a statement signed by the Information Officer of the institution, Sheba Aleburu on Friday, 25th June, 2025.
According to the statement, the Management of UNIMEDTH, led by the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Michael Gbala, warmly received the visiting team.
Also in attendance was the Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences, Prof. Ebun Adejuyigbe, accompanied by members of the university’s leadership team.
In his welcome address, Dr. Gbala commended the Federal Government for its visionary initiative to increase the number of medical students in Nigeria.
He emphasized the vital role of quality medical education in strengthening national healthcare systems and assured TETFUND of UNIMEDTH’s unwavering commitment to the advancement of medical training.
He further appreciated both the Federal and Ondo State governments for their continued support.
In his remarks, Prof. Alabi expressed gratitude for the warm reception and praised UNIMEDTH for its commendable strides in medical training and healthcare delivery.
He clarified that the visit was not for accreditation purposes but rather to assess how the Federal Government, through TETFUND, could support and enhance the hospital’s capacity.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof. Akinwunmi Akinbodewa, reaffirmed the hospital’s readiness to partner with TETFUND.
He commended the visionary leadership of Dr. Gbala in transforming the facility and proudly noted that UNIMEDTH was the first teaching hospital to integrate UNIMED graduates as house officers.
He described the visit as historic, signifying the hospital’s formal inclusion in national development strategies.
