Newly employed academic staff in Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, have been advised to abide with the ethics of teaching profession, in order to have successful career in the institution.

This advice was given by the Vice-Chancellor AFUED, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, in a message delivered at an orientation programme, organised for newly recruited staff, by the Academic Staff Transition Committee (ASTC) AFUED Chapter, which held on Tuesday, November, 2025 in the University.

Represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao, the University Administrator commended the organizers of the programme, noting that the exercise would provide opportunity for the newly employed staff to familiarize with the new environment where they have been employed to work.

Prof. Popoola also stated that the orientation exercise would also create opportunity for the participants to get acquainted with rules and regulations guiding teaching profession, stating that the development would guide and prevent them from running foul of the law.

He said; “I want to appreciate the transition committee for putting this programme together. However, one thing is to have a job and skill, the other thing is to hold onto the job.”

“When you hold onto the job, you need to abide with the ethics guiding it, no matter how good you may be, if you don’t abide with the ethics, you are not likely to stay on for long in the job,”

“Again, when you get to a new environment, there is need for you to familiarize with it, so as not to run foul of the rules, it is better for you to know and understand the rules and regulations guiding this profession, in order to guide you to stay long and get to the peak of your career,” he remarked.

The University Administrator urged the participants to take the orientation serious by paying attention to all the papers that would be delivered by experienced academics invited to handle various topics outlined for the exercise.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Chairman, Academic Staff Transition Committee, AFUED Chapter, Comrade (Dr.) Ajisafe O.E, said the programme was organised as part of efforts aimed at sensitizing the newly employed workers about their rules of engagement as member of academic staff in the institution.

Ajisafe, further stated that invitation of highly experienced academic and non-academic staff to deliver papers on several topical issues relating to the University and the teaching profession was aimed at expanding the horizon and deepening the knowledge of the new academic staff as they perform their duties in the University.

The ASTC chairman, expressed appreciation to the Management of the institution for providing enabling environment, and necessary support stating that the Union under his leadership, would not relent in contributing its quota to the development of the institution.

The one-day event attended by no fewer than one hundred newly employed academic staff of the University, featured delivery of papers by five resource persons from various departments in the University.

The papers delivered included Career Progress: “Research, Paper writing and Publication”, “University/Departmental Assignments and Relationships at works”, General Conduct: “Teaching Effectiveness, Handling of Examinations and Unethical Behaviour”, “Legal Implications of actions and Relationship with the University” as well as “Stress Management and Health talks”.
