The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a welder, Andy Giwa, over the alleged unlawful possession and handling of a locally fabricated pistol in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, who resides on Imogun Street, Uso, was arrested on September 11, 2026, following credible intelligence received by the police that he was allegedly working on a pistol at his workshop.
Acting on the information, operatives attached to the Uso Police Division reportedly stormed the workshop and recovered a locally fabricated pistol, while Giwa was taken into custody for questioning.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly told the police that the firearm belonged to another man whose identity had yet to be established and who was currently at large.
The police said efforts had been intensified to identify and arrest the alleged owner of the firearm, while investigations would also determine the circumstances surrounding its possession, manufacture and intended use.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet and comprehensive investigation. The investigation, according to the command, would also establish whether other persons were connected to the matter.
Ohagwu commended the citizen whose information led to the recovery of the firearm and urged members of the public to continue providing credible intelligence on suspicious activities. He assured residents that informants’ identities would be treated with utmost confidentiality, while reiterating the command’s commitment to preventing the proliferation and unlawful possession of firearms across Ondo State.
