The Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Otunba (Hon.) Taiwo Adegoroye, has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private schools across the council area due to the prevailing security challenges being experienced in parts of the country.
According to a statement released by his Special Assistant on New Media, Olatunji Babatunde, Adegoroye announced the directive on Tuesday, stating that the measure was taken as a precautionary step to safeguard the lives and property of residents, particularly pupils, students, teachers, and other school personnel within the local government.
The council chairman, however, clarified that candidates currently participating in national examinations would be permitted access to their respective school premises strictly for examination purposes, assuring that necessary arrangements would be made to ensure their safety.
He warned that any school authority found violating the closure directive would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the law, stressing that compliance was mandatory for all educational institutions operating within the local government area.
Adegoroye also appealed to parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and discourage unnecessary movements, noting that collective vigilance was necessary to enhance safety amid the current security situation.
According to him, the local government administration is working closely with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to strengthen security measures across Odigbo and ensure adequate protection of lives and property.
The chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare, safety, and security of all residents of the local government and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious activities within their communities.
