The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the abduction of three newly passed-out military recruits along the Anka/Bukuyum Road in Zamfara State.
The suspects, Abubakar Mallan Abubakar of Gargam Village, Bagega, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, and Usman Muhammadu of Ajera, Ilorin, Kwara State, were arrested on August 1 during an intelligence-led operation, the police said.
Police spokesman, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed that preliminary investigation showed that one of the suspects made useful confessional statements linking them to the July 2026 abduction of the three recruits along the Kwanan Mayanchi–Gurusu axis of Zamfara State.
He identified one of the rescued victims as Kabiru Hassan of Ribah in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, while the two others are from Zuru Local Government Area. The police confirmed that all three victims have regained their freedom.
Usman said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, adding that efforts were ongoing to track down other suspects connected with the crime.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, commended the operatives for the successful operation and reiterated the command’s resolve to arrest and prosecute all those involved in the abduction.
