The Ondo State Government has approved an additional ₦500 million to strengthen its Car Loan and Housing Loan schemes for workers in the state public service.
The intervention is part of a broader review of workers’ welfare packages approved by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, which also includes increases in the loan ceilings and Duty Tour Allowance payable to public servants.
The State Head of Service, Chief Segun Odusanya, who announced the approvals on Friday, said the decision was prompted by the changing economic conditions and the declining purchasing power of the existing loan limits.
Odusanya explained that the Car Loan and Housing Loan schemes had not been reviewed since 2013, despite significant increases in the cost of vehicles, building materials and construction services.
He said the latest review was intended to make the schemes more responsive to the financial realities facing workers and restore their capacity to provide meaningful assistance to beneficiaries.
The Head of Service added that the Duty Tour Allowance for officers undertaking official assignments within the state, outside Ondo State and outside the country had also been increased as part of the new welfare measures.
Odusanya commended the governor for approving the measures, saying the enhanced benefits and additional funding would improve workers’ welfare, boost morale and encourage greater commitment to the implementation of the government’s programmes.
