The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has urged the people of the state to continue to support his administration’s vision for development and to reflect on the virtues of love, kindness, and generosity during the Christmas season.

Speaking during the 2024 State’s Service of Carols and Nine Lessons held at the International Centre for Culture and Events (The Dome), Akure, on Thursday, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the true essence of Christmas as a time for reflection and renewal of values.

“This season is a testament to divine goodwill towards mankind, unfolding the great plan of redemption, worship, and praise to the Almighty God for His benevolence,” he said.

The Governor expressed gratitude to God for the peace and stability witnessed in the state over the past year, particularly during the November 16 governorship election.

“We serve a living God that truly loves us, the Almighty who overlooks our imperfections to rescue us from the vicissitudes of life. Of remarkable testament to His endless grace is the peace and calmness we witnessed across the State, where we coasted to an unprecedented victory. It is a collective victory which we have since dedicated to God and the good people of Ondo State,” he stated.

Reflecting on the achievements of his administration since assuming office in December 2023, Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted several milestones, including the implementation of a new minimum wage of ₦73,000, ongoing infrastructure projects, and improvements in education, security, and agriculture.

The Governor also unveiled his administration’s new development agenda, ‘OUR EASE’, which he described as a strategic framework to build on the gains of the outgoing Redeemed Agenda. He explained that ‘OUR EASE’ prioritizes areas such as order and security, technological advancement, efficient healthcare, sustainable agriculture, and education.

Governor Aiyedatiwa urged the people of Ondo State to embrace modesty and reflection during the Yuletide season.

“Christmas is not just a day; it is a frame of mind. A good conscience is a continual Christmas. Our celebration must embody the virtues and principles of Christ, for Jesus Christ is the reason for this season,” he said.

He further called for patience and understanding as Nigeria undergoes economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stating that these changes are crucial for collective growth.

The Governor, drawing inspiration from the words of Genesis 1:26-31, the Nineth Lesson when he read during the occasion, emphasized the divine authority and purpose bestowed upon humanity by God.

Earlier in his sermon, the Ondo State PFN Chairman, Bishop Joshua Kolawole Opayinka, encouraged the congregation to embrace the joy, peace, and hope that the birth of Christ brings to the world, urging them to reflect this light in their lives and share it with others during the Christmas season.
