The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that abducted students, pupils and teachers in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been rescued, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a statement posted on the command’s official X handle, the police said the victims were yet to be released, adding that security agencies were intensifying efforts to secure their safe rescue and apprehend those behind the abduction.
According to the statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command warned members of the public against spreading unverified information capable of creating panic and confusion among residents.
The police noted that the circulation of fake news and misinformation could heighten tension and distract security operatives from ongoing rescue operations. The command therefore appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with the joint security team handling the situation.
The statement further assured residents of Oyo State that verified updates would be communicated to the public as developments unfold. It advised individuals seeking authentic information or clarification to contact the command through its official communication channels.
