The Ondo West Local Government Council has successfully concluded its Aged Persons Cash Empowerment Programme, distributed across various communities within the local government area. ‎‎

The initiative was designed as a direct intervention to provide financial relief to the elderly population. A total of 300 senior citizens were selected as beneficiaries to receive direct financial assistance from the council.

‎‎According to an official statement signed by the Supervisor for Education, Information and Social Services, Hon. Michael Akinduro, each of the 300 selected beneficiaries received a cash sum of ₦120,000.‎‎

The intervention, which was organized under the theme “Celebrating Our Elders, Securing Their Future,” was aimed at recognizing the invaluable contributions of senior citizens to societal growth. ‎‎

The administration noted that the gesture was a token of appreciation for the elders’ decades of community development and leadership and emphasised that the initiative reflects the local government’s deep-rooted determination to improve the overall quality of life for the elderly.

‎‎He added that the program was carefully structured to promote social inclusion and cushion the effects of economic challenges on vulnerable groups.‎‎ The local government council further noted that the empowerment scheme was designed to ensure that those who have faithfully served their communities in their prime years are not left behind in their twilight years. ‎‎

Beyond the financial relief, the event served as a platform to celebrate the wisdom and sacrifices and enduring legacies of the senior citizens.‎‎

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the Executive Chairman of Ondo West Local Government, Hon. Ayotunde Akinfolarin, reiterated that the welfare of the people remains the ultimate priority of his leadership and assured residents that his administration would continue to roll out people-oriented programs targeting the grassroots.‎‎

Hon. Akinfolarin also used the occasion to express his profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. ‎‎He praised the Governor for his unwavering support and for fostering state policies that facilitate grassroots development seamlessly.‎‎

Reacting to the gesture, the beneficiaries expressed heartfelt appreciation to the local government leadership for what they described as a timely and highly impactful intervention. ‎‎Many noted that the ₦120,000 cash grant would go a long way in addressing their immediate healthcare and upkeep needs.‎‎

The beneficiaries further offered prayers for divine guidance, wisdom and continued success for both the Local Government Chairman and the State Governor. ‎‎They commended the seamless and transparent manner in which the selection and distribution process was handled by the council officials.‎‎

The successful execution of the Aged Persons Cash Empowerment Programme stands as a testament to Ondo West’s resolve to build an inclusive society with the administration reaffirming its commitment to ensuring every citizen is valued, respected and adequately supported.‎
