The United Kingdom has officially released the itinerary for President Bola Tinubu’s state visit from March 17 to 19. Hosted at Windsor Castle, the trip marks the first state visit by a Nigerian president to the UK in 37 years.
Preparations begin on March 17 with security sweeps and procession rehearsals. On March 18, the president arrives and will be received by Prince William and Catherine, the Princess of Wales, before a ceremonial welcome on Datchet Road.
A carriage procession will transport the president to Windsor Castle for a meeting with King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The morning includes a 21-gun salute and a formal state luncheon at St George’s Hall.
Afternoon sessions will focus on high-level diplomacy. Tinubu is scheduled to meet UK officials to discuss critical issues regarding trade, security, migration, and port development.
The evening concludes with a cultural exchange showcasing Nigerian artefacts. This will be followed by a prestigious state banquet hosted by the King at Windsor Castle.
On March 19, following a private breakfast with the Royal Family, Tinubu travels to London. He will lay a wreath at The Cenotaph to honor fallen soldiers before heading to 10 Downing Street.
The president will then hold a bilateral meeting and working lunch with Prime Minister Keir Starmer. These talks aim to strengthen the economic and political ties between the two nations.
Final engagements include signing bilateral agreements at Buckingham Palace and meeting the Nigerian diaspora. The visit ends with a departure from RAF Northolt as the president returns to Nigeria.
