The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially commenced the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms for aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by National Chairman Moses Zuwoghe and National Secretary Ikenna Enekweizu, the party confirmed that expression of interest forms will be available from May 13 to May 18, 2026. This initial phase will be immediately followed by a mandatory screening and interview exercise from May 19 to May 21 to determine the eligibility of all candidates.
According to the party’s timeline, only successful aspirants from the screening process will be cleared to purchase nomination forms between May 21 and May 23. All completed forms must be submitted by May 25, 2026.
To ensure a fair process, the NDC has scheduled an appeals window for May 25 and 26 to address any grievances arising from the screening results before the primary elections begin.
The electoral schedule peaks with primary elections for various offices on May 27 and May 28, while the presidential primary is set to take place in Abuja on May 29, 2026.
Aspirants for state houses of assembly will be screened within their respective states, but those seeking national assembly or presidential seats must attend screening at the party’s national headquarters. Additionally, the party has directed that governorship primaries be conducted at the local government level.
The NDC has emphasized its commitment to inclusivity by offering some of the lowest nomination fees among major parties. Total costs for both forms range from N2.5 million for state assembly positions to N60 million for the presidency.
Notably, the party is offering significant concessions to promote diversity, providing a 50 percent discount for female aspirants and a 75 percent discount for persons living with disabilities across all categories.
To maintain “credibility, fairness, and internal democracy,” the party will adopt an open secret ballot system for its primaries. All aspirants are required to sign a formal undertaking to adhere to the party’s code of conduct and guidelines.
The leadership has assured all members that the entire process will remain transparent and democratic as they prepare for the upcoming general elections.
