The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed reports suggesting a security threat in Odigbo Local Government Area that allegedly led to the closure of schools, assuring residents that there has been no breach of security or incident capable of causing panic in the area.
The Command said available intelligence and ongoing security assessments indicate that there is no credible threat to public safety in Odigbo or neighbouring communities.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command emphasized that the security situation across the local government area remains stable and under control.
The police urged residents, students and parents to disregard unverified reports that could create unnecessary fear and anxiety.
The statement revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, tactical commanders and intelligence units to maintain heightened surveillance and visibility policing throughout the state. Particular attention, according to the police, is being focused on schools, public facilities, critical national assets and other vulnerable locations.
The Command further reassured members of the public that the existing security architecture in Odigbo and across Ondo State remains robust and effective. Security agencies, it noted, are continuously monitoring developments and are prepared to respond proactively to any emerging concerns that may arise.
While reiterating the importance of public cooperation, the police warned against the spread of misinformation and rumours, stressing that false reports have the potential to undermine public confidence and trigger avoidable panic. Residents were advised to rely only on information released through official channels.
CP Ohagwu also called on residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Ondo State Police Command to the protection of lives and property, assuring citizens that the police will continue working with relevant stakeholders to sustain peace, law and order across the state.
