U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly berated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a tense phone conversation concerning Israel’s military operations in Lebanon, according to a report by Axios.
Citing a U.S. official familiar with the exchange, Axios reported that Trump accused Netanyahu of jeopardizing American diplomatic efforts in the region. During the call, Trump allegedly told the Israeli leader,
“You’re f* crazy. You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your a. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this.”
The report said Trump was particularly frustrated that Israel’s actions risked escalating tensions at a time when Washington was attempting to pursue sensitive diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing regional instability. U.S. officials reportedly feared that further military escalation could undermine ongoing negotiations and strain relations with key partners.
ccording to Axios, Trump also directly challenged Netanyahu over the military campaign, asking, “What the f* are you doing?”
The remarks underscored what sources described as growing tensions between the two leaders over the conduct and consequences of Israel’s operations in Lebanon.
Neither Trump’s representatives nor the Israeli government immediately commented publicly on the reported conversation. The exchange, if accurately described, highlights the increasing pressure surrounding efforts to balance security concerns, regional diplomacy, and international perceptions amid the ongoing conflict.
