The Oyo State Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in its fight against crime following the arrest of a notorious interstate armed robbery suspect and his accomplices.
The operation, which yielded a cache of weapons, cash, and luxury electronics, was the result of a high-stakes pursuit sparked by proactive stop-and-search tactics in the Akobo area of Ibadan.
The crackdown began when patrol operatives at General Gas, Akobo, intercepted a motorcyclist who attempted to flee upon sighting the officers. The suspect, identified as Abiodun Adeyemi Michael, was apprehended after a swift chase.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Michael had long been on the police radar for orchestrating robberies across the border regions of Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo States.
A thorough search of the suspect led to the recovery of a Magnum pump-action gun loaded with six live cartridges and a significant amount of stolen property.
Among the items seized were ₦130,000 in cash and an extensive collection of high-end mobile phones, including various iPhone models ranging from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone 17, several Tecno and Redmi devices, a Samsung Galaxy S10, and assorted electronics and wristwatches.
Under interrogation, Michael reportedly confessed to his involvement in a recent robbery spree around the Toll Gate and Egbeda areas of Ibadan. He named three accomplices—Olaoluwa Pamole, Ahmed Ismail, and a third individual known as Lamidi—who allegedly joined him in robbing unsuspecting citizens at gunpoint.
However, the third accomplice, Lamidi, managed to evade capture and remains at large, with police intensifying efforts to track him down.
Acting on this lead, the Divisional Police Officer of Akobo Division led a specialized team to a hideout at Access Hotel in the Sawmill area of Iwo Road. The raid resulted in the successful arrest of Olaoluwa Pamole and Ahmed Ismail.
The suspects further admitted to snatching an ash-colored Honda vehicle in Abeokuta, Ogun State, highlighting the interstate nature of their criminal operations.
