President Bola Tinubu has officially approved the deployment of 65 ambassadors-designate to various Nigerian missions across the globe.

‎This strategic move, announced on March 6, 2026, includes 34 career diplomats and 31 non-career appointees who were previously confirmed by the Senate in late 2025. The new envoys are tasked with the critical responsibility of enhancing Nigeria’s diplomatic presence, fostering economic partnerships, and protecting the interests of Nigerians residing abroad under the administration’s “Renewed Hope” foreign policy agenda.

‎To ensure a seamless transition, the Presidency has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence an intensive induction program for all designates. While the formal deployment is imminent, the process of securing diplomatic clearance, known as agrément, is currently underway with various host nations. This administrative step is a standard international protocol required before an ambassador can officially assume their duties in a foreign country.

‎The United Kingdom and France have already set the pace by granting formal approval for Nigeria’s representatives to their respective capitals. Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu has been cleared to serve as the High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, while Ambassador Ayo Oke has received the green light for his posting to France. Other host nations have been formally notified of the remaining nominees, with their approvals expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.

‎Among the career diplomats, Ambassador Akande Wahab Adekola has been assigned to Berne, Switzerland, where the agrément process is currently being concluded. The broad list of appointees reflects a mix of seasoned technocrats and political figures, all aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s influence on the global stage.
