Troops of Sector 2 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intensified offensive operations against terrorists and bandits in parts of Sokoto and Katsina states, recording major successes including the neutralisation of suspected terrorists, recovery of weapons and rescue of rustled livestock.
The operation in Sokoto State followed a distress call reporting that members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group attempted to set ablaze a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri Village in Tangaza Local Government Area. Troops swiftly mobilised to the area to repel the attack.
Military authorities disclosed that the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle upon arrival at the scene. During the encounter, two suspected terrorists were neutralised, while several others fled the area under intense military firepower.
Following the exchange of fire, troops carried out exploitation operations around the village to clear the area of fleeing insurgents and recover abandoned items. Security forces were said to have maintained dominance in the area after the operation.
Items recovered from the terrorists included two AK-47 rifles, several rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle believed to have been used during the attempted attack on the immigration facility.
In a separate operation in Katsina State, troops conducting a fighting patrol in Jibia Local Government Area encountered armed terrorists moving with herds of rustled livestock at Danya Bakwai Settlement. The troops immediately engaged the criminals, forcing them to abandon the animals and flee.
A total of 62 rustled livestock were recovered during the operation and later handed over to their rightful owners at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia LGA. The military reiterated that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to eliminating terrorism and banditry across the region and urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies.
