Ondo State Government has cautioned members of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state against taking actions that can threaten the peace enjoyed by residents of the state.
This warning was issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security matters who is also the Commander of the State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) in the state, Akogun Tunji Adeleye.
Adeleye warned that anyone caught messing with the peaceful coexistence of people in any of the motor parks within the state will be dealt with like a criminal.
He said: “The parks management committee was set up to oversee the activities of NURTW in view of the perennial crises occasioned by some of their activities which have become a threat to public peace and safety.”
Adeleye warned that some of the union’s actions are breaching the state government’s guidelines on how motor parks should be operated across the state.
“It is shocking to note that some of the self-acclaimed committee members of the state NURTW forcefully opened the Igoba (Akure) branch office where any activity to all intents and purposes, remains part of the operations suspended by the government.”
“While arrests are yet to be made, the government cannot allow such brigandage to continue unchecked. It is thus in line with the avowed commitment of the current administration under the able leadership of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to ensure the protection of lives and properties that proactive steps would be taken to forestall any further breakdown of law and order.”
The state government had earlier suspended the activities of the union in the state before a parks management committee was later created to control the activities of motor parks across the state.
