The National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has certified the consumption of locally produced instant noodles and seasonings by all residents of the country as they are not poisonous or unhealthy.
This certification was revealed by the agency through a statement it released on Thursday.
It presented the rigorous safety examinations conducted by the agency to examine the contents of the instant noodles to discover if they are fit for consumption or not.
It read “We are pleased to announce the outcome of NAFDAC’s investigation into the presence of ethylene oxide in Indomie Instant Noodles and their seasonings.
“Following recalls in Malaysia and Taiwan, we conducted thorough inspections at both the factory and market levels to ensure consumer safety.
“Samples of various brands of chicken-flavored instant noodles and seasonings were collected from production facilities nationwide.
“Additionally, our Post Marketing Surveillance Division visited markets in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano to obtain samples for laboratory analysis.
“We subjected 114 samples to rigorous testing at our Central Laboratory in Lagos, using Gas Chromatography with Mass Spectrometry detector. Our analysis focused not only on ethylene oxide and its derivative 2-chloroethanol but also on mycotoxins and heavy metals.”
It added that instant noodles and seasonings produced locally in Nigeria are safe for consumption.
“We are pleased to report that ethylene oxide or its derivative was not detected in any of the instant noodles produced in Nigeria and their seasonings.
“Furthermore, the levels of mycotoxins and heavy metals were within internationally acceptable limits. Therefore, we assure the public that noodles made in Nigeria are safe to eat.
“We acknowledge that there was a delay in releasing the analytical report due to the procurement and supply of necessary materials from overseas. We want to emphasize that this delay was not deliberate, and we remain committed to protecting public health.”
