Supporter of Sunshine Stars football club, Akure have expressed their disappointment at the manner which the club continues to sink deeper into relegation battle with many scared that the team may not be in the Nigeria Premier Football League, (NPFL) next season.
The reactions followed the team recording another disappointing result as they were held to a goalless draw by Heartland of Owerri in their adopted home in Ijebu-Ode.
The Ondo State football team have so far accumulated 34 points from the 31 matches they have played this season and are currently sitting in 19th position on the log with life in the Nigeria Nationwide League, (NNL) looking more likely for the team next season.

Bala Abubakar on the path to relegate another team in successive season.”

Temidayo Gegeoju said “Relegation is the goal. Please 🙏. At least Ondo state people will know her government doesn’t care about youths at all not to talk of sport. Imagine Ebonyi can boost of a stadium but a whole ondo state with 13% oil producing state allocation can’t complete road project not to talk of stadium.”
Josiah Ifedayo said “I have said times without number that, government should have fixed the stadium on time. This has contributed to this unfortunate incident. Remeber it took almost 5 years before gaining promotion to elite division.I won’t blame the players for this poor performance, playing away from home had been the major determinants. I wish them well.”
Themancalled Datemz said “It’s so disheartening what have become of our once shinning stars. Mismanagement and setting wrong priorities is affecting this team. Why sign 19 players mid-season? Only a miracle is what we need now, but if relegating will make the management effect the right changes then so be it.”
Mark Bethy said “Relegation bound team. You used to be on the top 4 as at Match Day 8. What went wrong? Your management is successfully destroying this team and we all are gonna watch you sink. You can still go back to the drawing board, get it right, pay your players you owe.”
Ajewole Solomon Olaoluwa said “Playing their home games in a neutral ground is the main reason behind underperformance of Sunshine Star. If I may ask, what happened to Akure stadium?”
Toju Mesarawon said “What happened to
Promise Awosanmi, Manuwa and the rest of the players that are hungry to excel. Instead you went to spend millions on players that will run away when e sup.”
Lolade Oladepo said “When a team has no vision or lack leadership. This is the consequence meanwhile it’s painful this team is going to relegate. For the past three seasons this team has always fighting relegation battles it’s high time they relegate and put their house in order.”
Meanwhile, the club’s president, Bamidele Ologunloluwa has given assurance that Sunshine Stars will maintain their elite league status appealing to supporters both home and abroad to remain calm and keep supporting the team.
He sought more support from stakeholders for Sunshine Stars to survive the present challenges.
“We still have seven matches to play in the League and with sincerity of purpose we can still end the football season above the red zone.
“This is just a trying time for the team and as managers we are not relenting in our players and officials’ welfare whose salaries and bonuses are paid as at when due.
“This is not the time for name callings, blame games, rather it is a period that all and sundry need to come together to lift our heritage, Sunshine Stars to make sure they do not go down.”
