The Ondo State Government, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has launched the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (ODSUBEB) website and the EduSuite Digital Attendance Monitoring Portal as part of efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability and technology-driven administration in the state’s basic education sector.

The platforms were unveiled on Tuesday at Royal Birds Hotel, Alagbaka, Akure, where the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, described the initiative as a major step towards building a transparent, accountable, data-driven and technology-enabled education system capable of delivering quality basic education across the state.

Ajibefun said the digital platforms align with Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s OUR EASE Agenda, particularly its focus on technological advancement, education, human capital development and entrepreneurship. He added that the initiative also complements the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which promotes digital innovation, public sector reforms and improved human capital development.

According to the commissioner, the newly launched SUBEB website will serve as the board’s official online platform, providing access to policies, programmes, educational resources, publications, procurement opportunities and other activities. He noted that the portal would improve transparency, stakeholder engagement and institutional visibility.

He explained that the EduSuite Digital Attendance Monitoring Portal was designed to digitally monitor the attendance of teachers and pupils in public primary schools across the state, generating real-time data to support effective supervision, educational planning, evidence-based decision-making and improved service delivery.

Ajibefun stressed that the system was not intended to punish teachers but to strengthen school management, professional responsibility and instructional time.

In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of ODSUBEB, Princess Abike Bayo-Ilawole, described the launch as a significant milestone in the state’s digital transformation agenda. She said the website would enhance access to information, improve communication and strengthen administrative efficiency, while the digital school management portal would provide a reliable database for monitoring attendance, planning and policy implementation.

Bayo-Ilawole disclosed that the board would, within the next few weeks, commence the training of teachers and distribute tablet devices to educators in 60 public primary schools as the first phase of the programme. She said the phased implementation would eventually be extended to more schools across the state to promote technology integration in teaching and learning. The permanent secretary commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for approving and releasing the state’s counterpart funds that made the project possible.

She also acknowledged UBEC for its continued partnership, technical support and intervention programmes aimed at improving access to quality, equitable and technology-driven basic education.

Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the UBEC State Coordinator, Mr. Aremo Ayodeji, described the initiative as a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen basic education through digital innovation. He said the adoption of technology would improve efficiency in service delivery, data management, planning and accountability, while reaffirming the commission’s commitment to supporting states in delivering inclusive and quality education.

Goodwill messages were also delivered by the Ondo State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Ayodele Samuel-Leke; the Chairman of the Association of Primary School Health Officers of Nigeria, Comrade Olakunle Akintoroye; and the representative of Education Secretaries, Barrister Oyebanji Bada. They praised the initiative as a timely intervention capable of improving school administration and learning outcomes.
