The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Nsikak Kingsley, for allegedly beating his biological father, Adone Peter, 65, to death in Akure, Ondo State.
The arrest follows a violent domestic incident that has sparked concern among residents of Oda Community in Akure South Local Government Area.
According to the police, the arrest aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen community safety, promote intelligence-led policing, and ensure the protection of lives and property under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police and the state command.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred on 28 May 2026, when the suspect allegedly had a heated altercation with his father, which escalated into a physical assault. During the confrontation, the elderly man reportedly sustained severe head injuries.
The victim was immediately rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment. However, despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, he was later confirmed dead by the attending doctor while receiving care.
The case was reported to the police by Daniel Moses, another son of the deceased and brother to the suspect, prompting detectives to launch an immediate investigation. The suspect was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
Police authorities confirmed that the remains of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The case has also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a detailed investigation, while the suspect remains in custody pending arraignment in court.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, condemned the incident, describing it as unfortunate and unacceptable. He urged residents to avoid violence in resolving disputes and to rely on lawful means of conflict resolution, while assuring that justice would be served in the matter.
