The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists and hitmen allegedly linked to a series of violent crimes and killings in Ajanmgbadi, Ojo Local Government Area, and surrounding communities.
The suspects were apprehended during a targeted operation based on credible intelligence received by the Command.
The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Nwokolo, also known as “Oblo,” 35; Ayola Israel, popularly called “Essy Pawpaw,” 39; Ebuka Nnamdi, 31; and Chinedu Okafor, 22. Police operatives arrested them at a hotel in Ajanmgbadi, where they were reportedly hiding.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations uncovered disturbing evidence linking the suspects to several violent criminal activities. Investigators reportedly recovered a video from one of the suspects’ mobile phones showing the alleged killing of unidentified persons within Ajanmgbadi and neighbouring communities.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to being members of the notorious Aiye Confraternity. They also reportedly admitted to involvement in a series of killings and other violent crimes that have terrorised residents of the area in recent months.
Further searches conducted by the police led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols, one revolver pistol, and thirteen live cartridges. The weapons and ammunition are believed to have been used in carrying out the suspects’ alleged criminal operations.
The Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement in other criminal cases, identify additional members of the gang, and apprehend any accomplices still at large. The suspects are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives for the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eliminating cultism, violent crimes, and other criminal activities across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts aimed at ensuring public safety
