Awosanmi’s Goal Secures Maximum Points For Sunshine Against El-kanemi

Super Eagles invitee, Promise Awosanmi came to the rescue as Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure strolled past El-Kanemi Warriors in the match day 18 tie of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The Owena Whales waited till the 84th minute before breaking the deadlock through Promise Awosanmi who beat goalkeeper George Abine from Elmer Arunta’s pass.

Sunshine Stars started the encounter on a bright note with good exchange of passes but were unable to find the back of the net despite creating goal scoring opportunities in the first half.

All efforts from the visitors to break the brick wall of Sunshine Stars defence in the second half was resisted by the backline coordinated by team captain Chidozie Iwundu and assisted by Adebayo Alimi and Yusuf Olowoshile.

Opeoluwa Olufemi thought he had given the home team the lead in the 68th minute only to see his short parried away by Abine.

El kanemi Warriors were reduced to ten men in the 78th minute as one their players received the marching order for the second yellow cards.

Sunshine Stars chief Coach, Bobola Akinfolarin in a his post match interview commended his players for the job well done, saying he was very happy for the victory under under the new Technical Adviser, Abubakar Bala.

“It is always very tough playing a first match in any team but thank God for the maximum points in the kitty.

“Despite several missed goal scoring chances, I am impressed by the reaction of the players who were resilient with their eyes on goal.”

Sunshine Stars are currently 13th on the log and will take on Ikorodu City behind closed doors at Onikan stadium, Lagos.
